MYL
MYL Foundation alumni and friends! Please let us know if you plan to join us at our Winter Alumni Service Event. Our event will be on Saturday, February 22 from 12:00PM-3:30PM at Lasell University; their address is 85 Maple Road, Auburndale, MA 02466. We'll do some fun icebreakers, have lunch, and complete a service project, which is to collect, organize, and deliver gently used books, DVDs, and other materials from our communities to support our partner MYL organization, More than Words. Once all of the items have been sorted and organized, we will head to More Than Words (about a 10-minute drive) together around 1:30PM (there will be extra drivers if you aren't taking a car).
More Than Words is a non-profit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. Your donations will directly support hands on job training--empower youth to work as a team to manage their own retail and online bookstore. Your support helps youth develop real life skills and self-confidence for their transition to adulthood.
Part of this event is a book drive! If you have any books or DVDs in good condition that you were planning to get rid of, please consider bringing them!.You can also host a book drive at school or at work; the link below has a ton of promotional material and information about the types of books that are accepted (in short, anything that's in good condition and up-to-date is okay).
Book Drive Guidelines from More than Words
Please note that this event will involve collaboration with another organization--MYL Foundation board members will be in attendance.
Contact Chris Ackerman, Director of Alumni Relations, ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
