About
The Foundation is full of incredible alumni of all ages, and in all fields. We want to connect you with inspiring people that can help you! Whether it's helping you apply to colleges, deal with your first post-graduate job, or something else, we’re here to help! Anything you're wondering about or need guidance on, that's what your mentor is for.
The logistics of the mentorship are up to the mentee - do you want to meet for coffee, chat over the phone, or handle everything through email? Whatever works best for your partnership. (What won't we do? Fill our your job application or write your college essay for you - but we'll help you make the most informed choice you can!!)
Mentors
MYL alumni who've been there - working professionals with experience. They are willing to devote their time and energy to helping you progress as an individual and move on to the next chapter of your life. Our staff works to pair mentors and mentees based on shared interests - we try to give you the mentor that's best for you! We've got artists and engineers and scientists and executives and educators and everything in between!

MYL Mentee Testimonial
"Hello MYL from Westfield MA, (Western Mass represent!). I am Hannah Jury, a 17 year old senior in high school, 2017 delegate at MassSTAR, and 2018 Junior Facilitator for the conference. Coming from a relatively sheltered background, my experience in June of 2017 helped open my eyes and go through the same impactful transformation that the majority of delegates experienced, which will continue for others in years to come. Due to the influence on my perception of the world around me, my values, and my relationships with others-- it became important to remain involved.
With this, and the introduction of the mentorship program, I couldn’t dismiss the chance to take part in the new program. If nothing else, I would have the opportunity to make connections with great people-- and if I learned anything from MassSTAR, it was the great and sometimes unforeseen value of the people around me. During a confusing junior year of high school-- having little idea of who I was, what I was interested in, and where I wanted to go with my life-- I filled out the mentorship application that asked such questions.
Come December of this year, I was very e-word to have been paired with Jen Coliflores, a 2000 alum of the conference, and current MYL Vice-President. Sharing interests similar to my own, such as international relations, studying abroad, the legal system, and being an alum from one of my top choice schools, made me very excited to have been paired with her. Additionally, I will use this as an opportunity to highlight the wizardry of Sean Flaherty, as I did not include some of those updated aspects of my profile when I first filled out the application.
Jen was a welcoming mentor, having invited me to shadow her during her day as a public defender in Worcester. Although I am unsure of what I intend to pursue in regards to future careers, I feel that an experience such as my mentorship is more helpful than if I was sure, because it helps give me more of an idea of what to expect if I chose to take a similar route to Jen. Aside from the interesting observations made in the courtroom, Jen provided me with beneficial conversations with judges, coworkers, and GREAT thai food.
Thanks to the program, my interest in the legal system was piqued, as my connection and praise for the MYL foundation deepened. I went into the program with an open mind, having few expectations, and that continues in regard to what I hope to continue to gain from the program. I look forward to stay in touch with Jen, am honored to be her mentee, and will look back on this experience as well as her gracious help with college applications with great appreciation.
In sum, I recommend anyone who has yet to join the program to join. While my experience is more than I could’ve imagined; it is not necessarily unique, as much can be learned from any interaction or conversation, whether or not interests are shared. If nothing else, you may get some good thai food out of the experience!" - Hannah Jury 17' mentee of immediate past VP Jen Coliflores
